I am restoring a very early Series 1 (875177) and the hood frame currently has fuzzy "Bristleflex" seals on it in 4 folding sections along the side windows. I think these may be original but they don't look like the profile in plate 42 of the J.30, Spare Parts Catalogue. However, in both books by Dr. Thomas F. Haddock, there are pictures of the bracket mounting location for the hardtop. (6 Cylinder Restoration Guide, pg 67; 6 & 12 Cylinder Restoration Guide, pg 72). Coincidentally, the photo of the early car example shows Bristlflex on the hood. I was told earlier by an expert that Bristleflex was never used on E-Types.
Does anyone know what is correct for the first 500 cars?

Bristleflex Seals

The material used was 'Furflex' - a woven wool pile, created from moquette, formed around a rubber tube and used to provide a high quality finish to the inner door edges. Used on the E-Type on the inside of the door windows. It is still available from the various trim suppliers in a range of colours.

Thanks, David. In the Bristleflex seal that's on my car, the fuzzy part is wrapped around a continuous strip of metal clips that go over the edge of the hood frame and the fuzzy part then faces the inside of the car. This part is joined to a continuous strip of rubber with a sort of "U" section that presses against the window.
