New to the forum. Currently restoring a 1963 S1 Coupe.
It has a very much custom (read probably home made by a previous owner) wiring loom which is very puzzling.
What is this?
It appears to be just a cuprous strip with one fairly heavy gauge wire coming from the 'B' terminal on the Voltage regulator and the other side goes off to the starter solenoid - among other 'places'. The whole thing is encased in a rubber boot which just parks on a holder bolted to the bonnet latch on the firewall.

David, no help identifying that but if you’re doing a comprehensive restoration you may wish to install a complete new harness. In the UK we can source them from: https://www.autosparks.co.uk/
An alternative is to fit an alternator with built in regulator. And changing to negative earth is often done.
All the above are discussed in various places and this discusses suitable alternators:

Good luck and welcome to the best place of all things E Type and for help and advice.

It may well have already had an alternator conversion and hence the non standard wiring.
Can you confirm whether it has a dynamo or an alternator?

Stuart,
We have a dynamo and not an alternator and I have identified the component. It appears it is a 'current shunt' and the best thing to do with it is to put it back and not fiddle with it. There is reason for it being there which I sort of understand and..... I'm going to put it back and not fiddle with it.
