In my new Series 1, brake fluid is going from the front reservoir to the back one. Looking at the diagram, this implies the fault is with one of the seals in the booster (red arrow).
Am I right? Or are darker forces at play....

Yes, it could be a failure of the arrowed seal on the shuttle , or even its being placed back to front . However, before going to the trouble of dismantling the servo it is worth checking that the rear reservoir has been correctly plumbed i.e. not inadvertentlyput to pots D or B instead of port C. That would also explain why you cannot bleed it satisfactorily
