Hi All,
This is for a Series1 1967 4.2.
The top L/H ball joint has failed on the MOT for the second time in 3 years and I have decided to replace the complete wishbone with the type that has the one piece ball joint. These seem available from CMC or Barretts.
Firstly would it be best to replace both sides and secondly who has bought these from either supplier and can recommend which is the best one of the two.
The other problem is that I replaced the steering column bushes 2 years ago (they are the plastic type) and over time they seem to have expanded and are making the steering stiff. Can anybody recommend the best supplier for these and is it best to take a slight amount of material from the inside of the bush before fitting to give a little more play in the bush and column.
Thanks Phil

CMC make them, Barratts sell the same item.
You'll have a better chance of discount from Barratts.
CMC do sell just the ball joint itself. I looked at trying to machine my old wishbone to fit but was advised that it would be prohibitively costly. I am still not entirely convinced of that...
I have used them on my S1.5 for about 3 years without problems.
You should replace both.
As for the steering bushes, I made some out of delrin. To do this you would need access to a lathe but they are simple to make. I made them about 1" wide top and bottom as I think the stock design is too narrow.

Thanks Heuer, abowie,
This is the description of the upper wishbone from Barratts
Upper wishbone made solely by SNG Barratt have been designed with a self lubricating ball joint which needs no adjustment throughout its life. This dispenses with the fiddly components of the standard ball joint.
I am wondering if they now make the wishbone themselves and are not now supplied by CMC. Anybody know?
Phil
