Not sure if I've shared this with you girls

It's clear that I'm not at all right in the cabbage department but I think I'm getting worse

Ever since I could hold a sponge I've been licking and cleaning cars and not much using them through fear of getting them dirty

Well I have been getting worse.....driving dirty ratty classics is the way forward......Never have to raise a sponge to it, the dirtier the better

I've sorted the mechanicals out to perfection...It drives like new but doesn't look like new

RatEEEE

As discovered in a half eaten barn....car had 4" of water inside so I knew the floors weren't dot

Well firstly. HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLD MAN

secondly what a cracking bit of kit. I "get" the rat look. It it's not for me. I am happy to use my cars but also get why you want it like this. Awesome hope it passes its MOT with its crappy front number plate. I bet it drives well.

So where did you stop cleaning: only the underground mechanical parts?

And btw, what kind of exhaust do you have there and are your tyres/wheels Avons on 5.5" or 6" triple laced MWS rear and front?

I knew this car wouldn't go down too well here

No cleaning but rear suspension overhauled and powder coated and detailed with new/reconditioned everything.

Same with front suspension inc brakes again.

Carbs rebuilt...wiring, charging , cooling, 123...etc etc Eerything to make it drive well and be reliable

6" wheels with Avon CR6zz (?)

Exhaust is H&S mild steel minus rear boxes

Actually understandable, another philosophy.
Fully reliable and to be driven, while remaining "dans son jus"!
Hoping there is no hidden rust that would be a burden for the future:wink:

Rust wise it's not too bad.....Needs more I think.

Todays MOT will tell us more

Everyone has a shiny Etype.....I want to use an Etype come rain or shine...even in the snow....Can't wait

It's always the slightly tatty cars or restoration cases that pull the crowd when a gang of similar cars are parked up. As you say, most are gleaming these days, so it makes a nice change to see one as it may have been in the late 60s / 70s.

Excellent!

Love it - "shabby chic"! I hate washing my cars and I usually only do so out of embarrassment so that would be ideal for me. I see you got hold of one of John Mangoletsi's new ITG 'silver' filters. Are they on sale now?

If for driveability, aren't these 205/70 too sticky for handling/steering?
And did you remove the bump stops?

Yes I'm on DDK

That's my Nippers 911...He has just fitted a 3.0 220 bhp lump to it.

We were both at the Castle last weekend and parked together in the top corner of the Early car area though left early ish....Great cars...I have a 73.

David....I asked bob at Etype to get me one....ITG I think

Bump stops had perished and fallen Off I think....I haven't had to grind the metal carrier off....come to think of it...not sure if it has them????

Yes tyres too sticky probably but it turns in well...feels very planted

C'mon Lee - put the standard air filter drum back on, dump the D-Type HT lead separators, get a mild steel exhaust with chrome resonators and do something with those wheels/tyres! You know you would really have some fun with RS5 cross-plies - try them just for once!

Yes...passed the MOT.

Couple of advisories

Rear wheel bearings (end float) forgot to adjust and split pin etc. Now done

Hand Brake..Adjusted and sorted

Running rich.....Adjusted

Minor corrosion front of both sills.

Yes...Not a fan of the foam filter......Someone convinced me it would gain me power....sounds better

Already fitted a mild steel exhaust...Stainless tailpipes minus silencers...barks like an Alsatian.

Tyres and wheels I had sitting around.

I love the box though....used that supersonic oil and it's a dream

The filter will gain you power but only if you change the needles (could be your rich running problem?). Personally I would go back to the standard plenum (it looks so good) and stick a ITG Maxogen filter on the end but you will still have to fit UE needles.

Well done on the mild steel exhaust. They do sound so good compared to the s/s stuff people insist on putting on. What was the 2nd gear problem with the Moss box? And, yes, Redline MTL is superb in these boxes.

That's a nice set up.

Yeah...I changed the needles....is there a base setting for the mixture? Don't wanna keep leaning it off.

Yes...I had a steel system on my old DHC...lovely

How much is that air filter system?

Gearbox turned out to be a false alarm....Wouldn't select 2nd on the ramp but as soon as I drove it on the ground it was all good.....result

Just love hooning around in it....feels strange because I'm waiting for bits to fall off but in reality why would it

Credit where credit is due, it's a cracking idea. I trust that she's been well rust-proofed so she at least won't deteriorate any more id you do use her all year round? Perhaps you ought to update your signature now too.

?60 - you just buy the ITG Maxogen JC99 filter, relieve the plenum intake slightly with a flap wheel and you are good to go. I use this system on my trans-European OTS after trying just about everything - it is the best of all world's in my experience. Don't hesitate, don't believe what any vendor says, this is what I reckon is the ultimate E-Type intake, and I have done the miles to prove it!

If you fit the ITG filter and change the needles is it then necessary to retune the carbs?
If there is more than just fit them and drive the car, what else is involved?
Thanks
