#1 Brake pipes

I am based in Australia, can anyone tell me if the use of the original copper brakes pipes is no longer legal for roadworthy inspection purposes? It has been suggested that upgrading to steel should be done for safety reasons in any event.

Hi
my SI had steel pipes from new - I'm almost sure they were original. If you have copper now I guess they have been changed at some point. When I renewed mine I used Kunifer tube (mix of copper and nickel), it's easy to work with and stronger than copper, it's legal in UK but not sure about Oz

The copper lasts for ever. The steel rots away! Need I say more?

Copper is the nicest to work with but it does need careful securing. If left to waggle it will work harden and can crack. Kunifer is better in this respect but it is good practice to secure the lines nicely anyway.
