Tarting up the torsion bars

Finally got some time to spend on my e-type... another car load sent to the blasters :) What's the best way to restore the torsion bars? What would have been their original finish back in 1965?

Satin black paint was probably the original finish. I have had mine powder coated in satin with satisfactory results : the coating seems to be sufficiently flexible not to come off under torsion

Thanks for the reply/info. I was a bit concerned about plating them as they didn't look as though they were plated originally. I'll probably paint them as I'm not a fan of powder coating.
