#1 throttle slave shaft

My 4.2 engine came with a 3.8 manifold. I replaced this and bought the linkages. With the engine in place however it is clear that the slave shaft is too long. The first photo shows the length and the second shows the shaft butted up against the firewall. As you can see it is 4cm (1 1/2") too long. Have I got the wrong part? Thanks.

Have you pushed the spigot on the firewall end through the bush in the firewall ? If not, that would account for the excess length at the carb end

Should there be a recess in the firewall for the bushing? If so, I don't have one. My bushing flange mounts flush to the firewall and the bushing sticks out about 2.5cm. Thanks.

Hi.....just checked on my 69 S2 2+2 shaft measurement is aprox 10in ....... at the bulkhead end it fit into a bracket with a rubber gromet holding it....the bracket is held off the bulkhead by spacer washers.........I also have a spare that was removed from a friends car when he replaced all his linkage that to is approx 10in but I can see that it has been cut and re welded...so obviously been shortned.......Hope this helps Steve

Where did you get that from? It's hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like it might be a home made job. The arms look right but the shaft and the welding look a bit odd to me.

As I recall, I got the shaft from the same guy I bought the manifold from. The arms do look right so I'll probably just shorten it to the correct length. Thanks.

I've got a couple of these lying around. The length of the shaft is 9.625" from the blunt end that fits through the bracket on the firewall to the end of the ball on the opposite ( carb. ) end. Just to be clear this is exclusive of any of the brackets welded to the shaft. It is the maximum length of the entire shaft.

I shortened and rewelded the shaft yesterday. It now fits nicely. I just measured it and it came out to 9 9/16", so pretty close to the original.
