This is really NOT the most technically challenging question I have ever asked but hey, why not?

I was wondering how I am meant to tighten the nut and washer on the bottom of the air cleaner now I've the under tray fitted?

Whilst I am on the air cleaner is there a technique to fitting the plenum Into the rubber on top of the air cleaner without pushing the rubber into the cleaner? I imagine both of these items can be achieved with a fair degree of fiddling but if anyone has a cheat I am all ears. Thx and Happy New Year to you all

I glued the bolt to the base of the drum , and the wingnut can then be screwed on with ease . The trick with the rubber seal is to to put the seal on the plenum , and then put the lid into the seal , before putting the lid on the top of the drum

I don't have a wing nut on my drum, but the stud is protruding from the drum itself and I have to get my hand underneath somehow to put the nut and washer on. I was wondering whether you fix the stud to the cross support and whether there was a wing nut inside the drum. I need to have another look inside the drum, I suppose. Makes sense on the rubber boot as well. cheers A

They switched to a nylon insert for the bracket and a big self-tapper fitted from above through the drum. Reason enough to get a Series 2 :-)

er yes quite! I have had another look and it is quite impossible to fit the bottom nut on the drum with the carbs on and the air reservoir in place and the bottom cover in place. I need a child with an arm the length of an adult with a hand that is mounted on a 360 degree universal coupling. Nah there must be another way???

I do agree through. Combination spanner held in fingertips of an arm fed down the side of the dustbin as I recall. Dunno, my S2 doesn't even have the cannister anymore.

ok will try harder. the only way I can see to do it is to have it on a ramp and feed my arm up inside the under plate. Once I have the nut and washer on, a ratchet spanner will suffice. no room for my arms anyway around the drum, it will have to be done from underneath. gee whizz I didn't see this coming!

Andrew, yes, on both of mine the stud is fixed to the diagonal support, pointing upwards . You then lower the drum on and use a wingnut on the stud with a suitable washer ( I use a rubber washer as well to give some flexibility). It is then the work of 2 minutes to get the entire filter assembly on or off

Ah right well mine has a stud fixed to the bottom of the drum , and inside the drum it has a false floor with small holes around the outer edge, making it inaccessible to see the other side of the stud. Umm. I am confused as the parts book lists a stud as a separate item. It would seem to me that the stud should fix to the cross bracket and then secure from inside the drum.
