I enquired a while back with a radiator manufacture regarding the purchase of the original Marston style radiator. But they advised that this was only fitted to the earliest of cars (indicating the flat floor cars). However have noticed in the brown Jaguar spares book that the Marston was still illustrated in my 1963 (reprinted) version. Further having seen some photos of a March built 1963 roadster from the states with 29k miles from new this too was so fitted. Therefore I believe this is enough evidence for me to assume my non marston brass radiator is a replacement. Would anyone suggest who might produce the best look alike Marston?

I believe my March 1964 built LHD FHC has its original Marston radiator.

Have a look through the 3.8 factory fit, there is loads of info there on the Marston rads and the repro's.

All 3.8's had the Marston. If the vendor tells you otherwise shop elsewhere because they clearly do not know their stuff ...................... refer them to the Forum Factory Fit thread, or indeed me!

Uh oh.. here we go again! Had an interesting email conversation with you and Malcolm McKay about this, Richard. I personally have seen enough information to go with the collective and say that your radiator is indeed a replacement.

I'm collecting data on these presumed after market brass radiators that continue to pop up on later 3.8 cars. I'm specifically trying to determine if they all came from the same source. I would very much appreciate a photo....either via e-mail or here. Thanks.

The Service Department replacements all came from the same source - Jaguar. They became available in 1965 and were 4.2 brass radiators with modifications. Replacements pre that date were after market and knocked up by local firms. Not difficult, a standard core with appropriate conections brazed on. Doubt you will find a common source, particularly in the US.

I understand the conventional wisdom. Nonetheless, I am compiling a data base and would appreciate a photo of the subject radiator. To date, all the knocked up units in my data base are identical. Coincidence? ....maybe.

Just wanted to say thank you to AndrewH for directing me to Fosseway Performance with regard to the availability of the Marston style radiator. I hope to collect mine at the restoration show at the NEC (end of March).

Fosseway told me that the USA 'Marston' badge is located on the radiator with two small mushroom headed screws - is that how you fixed it? and did you manage to find these screws?

Also it was mounted so the printing could be read from the front of the car - so upside down when looking at the car from under the bonnet. Not sure you want to be drilling into the rad top plate though - suggest you place the Coolcat Corp repro stick-on Marston plate and then cut the heads off appropriate screws and glue them in place.

I was surprised to see that Marston serialized these radiators. Is there a way to contact someone who might have access to their old records? I'm curious how to determine which serial number belongs with which car if a reproduction sticker is used on a reproduction radiator. I'm also interested in how many radiators were produced to this specification. Anyone have a suggestion as to where I might find this data?

Each Marston was individually numbered and these numbers broadly (+/- 100) equate to car numbers. A matter of gathering sufficient data from owners to produce a cross reference. I can find no records of Marston Excelsior production so some leg work will be required.

Thanks. Looks like they were purchased by ICI, then Imperial Metals Industries (IMI)....and are still producing radiators. Now to find an address....

I got Fosseway to fit it as I felt it better they drilled the top than me! I cannot recall what screws they used but will check.

What page on the factory thread did you find the Marston plate position? Fosseway mentioned the plate being the opposite way round?
