Hi Guys,

I am having difficulty finding a picture of how exactly to fit the pop-riveted sealing strip to the right and left mudguards, and at what intervals to place the rivets.
Does anyone have a template or are you able to send me a picture?

I also need the positions of the mounting/fixing brackets to the sills.

There is nowhere locally I can find a well enough restored e-type to be sure.

I replaced the rubber strips last year on my car.
I bought a new set of the metal securing strips from a very well known supplier. They turned out to be rubbish - compared to the originals they were different widths, too thin and unpainted. Also most importantly the holes in them did not line up with the originals. As a result I refurbished the original strips and re-used them.

Have you got none of the strips nor any of the body parts with the old rivet holes in to act as a template? If you do use new strips then you will have to use the holes and spacings in them.

For the rubber I bought 4 inch wide sheet stuff which made cutting out the long curved one much easier.
Also don't forget the 2 sections on the LHS of the bonnet, which should have the original rivet holes present?

+1 on Steve's comments. I went through exactly the same hassle when I replaced the rubber strips.
Refurbish the old metal strips if at all possible. If that's not possible make up new ones based on the river holes that should still be present in the mudguard panels. The securing strips can be made out of 1mm sheet steel and are shaped like long rectangles about 12mm wide- two on the passenger side and one on the driver's side(RHD).
Whatever you do. don't buy the repo's from that well known supplier.

When I got the car, there were no mudguards at all, so the ones I have are repro , but they do fit. However, there are no holes in them, and that is the dilemma.

I think the best I can do is to take some close up pictures of a car with correct rubbers, meticulously measure the dimensions and then fabricate some along the lines suggested.

Are the pop rivet holes at standard separations? Presumably the factory originals were all pre-drilled to the same dimensions. Strange these repro ones have no holes.

These are great, but the problem also is getting the exact points for the holes. (my mudguards have no holes).
It is difficult to get exact dimensions from the photos, but they do show how the rubbers should be affixed.

If you sell a repro mud shield drilled you'll get push-back the holes don't line up. If you sell an undrilled piece it automatically suits any original or repro fixing strips because you use those as drill templates. If you have blank shields AND strips just drill by eye. You don't need a micrometer...

I'm trying to fit the drivers side mudshield on my RHD 3.8. Please could someone assist with a photo of how it should be shaped around the upper wishbone as I suspect I need to trim some metal away to get the correct fit ?
