#1 Using series 2 brakes on a series 1

Post by 265bhp » Sun Mar 22, 2015 10:17 pm

Evening all

I spotted a pair of series 2 front callipers for sale and wondered if there is any reason why these could not be the basis of an upgrade to the front brakes on my car....( my originals are too badly corroded to be of any use as it is)

Thoughts welcomed
Thanks
Jonathan

I'm sure that bolt hole spacing differs and thus you need matching uprights, which aren't cheap.

Volvo 240/244 Girling calipers are pretty much a bolt on option. I bought a set for about 50 quid. There are some minor modifications to do if you want to go down this route but require no more than a power drill. A lot cheaper than 4 new pistons for the originals.

Yes you need a set of XJs or XJ uprights, axle and bearings which are a lot better in the long run and you can also fit vented discs at the front. You also need new steering arms.
A lot of bother to be honest, you can buy the whole from Derek Watson including brake callipers and discs for around ?750, I'm not sure but I think E-Type fabs also do a kit.
