#1 Door handle issue

Hi all,

I've just encountered a problem with the drivers outside door handle on my FHC. The push button is not returning fully - ie the spring feels slack and subsequently the door won't lock with the key and also now requires an almighty slam to get it to shut fully. Any clues before I pull it apart?

Cheers,
Pete.

Have the same problem every 5 years or so, it is usuaslly solved with a spray of pressurized lubricant (CRC or WD40), give it some time to clean up and follow by a spray of thin floating grease from a pressurized can.

Dont forget to oil the rotating part that locks to the door post either. There is an oil hole on top of it and the toothed part must spin quite free.

The (25 year) solution is to take off the door cover and clean and grease all joints and a good lock oil to cylinder etc.

Hi Pete,

Could it be the housing behind the spring that is the problem?

They are only a very thin casting and the bottom that retains the spring tends to break away; did on mine anyway.

(note they are sided)

Thanks for the replies guys and also the SNGB link Paul, yes it does feel like something is broken as the button went quite stiff before this happened. Either way I'll remove it and inspect it properly.

Cheers
Pete

Yes definitely the lock housing that has broken. Thanks Paul. Now to find one here in Aust. otherwise a long wait for such a small part from SNGB.
