Chassis number plate

I need to replace the small chassis number plate, which is approx 64mm long by 15mm wide and which contains the capital letter followed by 4 numbers. Mine disintegrated when being stripped for rebuild. I have been unable to locate anyone in NZ who has an old fashioned metal stamping kit for producing raised letters and numbers. Suggestions welcome if you know somebody/ company that can make one up. Also my plate was located inside the boot on the wheel arch, but I have seen them situated near the brake reservoirs. I'm guessing it doesn't matter where they go as the number can also be seen on the main chassis plate and picture frame by the radiator. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I would recommend that you pop-rivet a replacement body-number plate in the trunk where your original tag had been affixed.

- Those tags were mounted on the firewall for a very short period in 1961 -- the tag for my E-type, built in mid-September 1961, is is pop-riveted in the trunk.

I can't recommend a source for an accurate repro tag, sorry.

Suggest you search this forum as the subject was definitely covered in the past 12 months. I was told that CMC can produce them but at high cost (circa ?150) but I'm sure someone posted a cheaper option.

It's a tricky plate to get right ...
You're better off with the CMC item as it is a faithful replica of the original whereas the AJ Autocraft 'interpretation' is poor. No definition to the letters/numbers and font all wrong. The CMC product is ?32 (not ?150 as previously posted) ..... Hopefully you'll save some time. I have no fewer than 3 other attempts at this body # tag(!) & they are all rubbish - wish I'd gone to CMC first time round...
