Can anyone tell me what this is?
I was checking how to remove the pipes behind the bulkhead and there it was, some kind of cable with a spring and a fixture. Seems to come out thenother side of the bulkhead in the engine compartment.

Its the wiper parking position adjuster. It connects to the wiper rack.
Coincidentally, I just adjusted mine when getting the wipers going, I needed to use it to get the wiper parking switch to work correctly. Check your wiper rack and you will see where it connects.

It's a courtesy light switch from where I'm looking. It IS only a small iPhone screen though...

Parking adjuster for the windscreen wipers. The small knurled knob at the other end of the cable protrudes from the firewall on the left side.

Ah, right, the inboard wiper rack end. I was looking for the knurled knob - duh.

That is indeed where it goes, with a kind of flat hex nut on the outside of the bulkhead.

Out of interest, how do you adjust the position.
Is it from the knob on the bulkhead or from the cable inside the dashboard.

By turning the knurled knob you move the arms relative to one another and compress or decompress the spring over the thread which keeps it under tension.

By turning the knurled knob (located on the bulkhead, right side of the picture - PvdS) you move the arms relative to one another and compress or decompress the spring over the thread (in the dashboard, left side of the picture - PvdS) which keeps it under tension.
