#1 Heater flap captive nuts bolts sheared

Post by andrewh » Mon Sep 21, 2015 3:52 pm

Has anyone suffered the same fate as me? The four 5/16 UNF bolts that hold the heater vents above your knees have sheared. The nuts which are captive are usefully within the heater ducting in the bulkhead. Has anyone got a fix for this? I suppose I could drill them out and fit rive nuts. Anyone?

Hi Andrew,

Exactly the same happened on mine. Simple solution is to drill and re-tap.

Cheers.

Ok thanks Simon. Bizarrely this is on a California car and the ducting internals are a bit rusty, whereas my UK car they were fine! There has been an animal living in the ducting and I suspect its bodily fluids may have accelerated the Rusting of the nuts and bolts. Anyway, I will contort myself to drill these blighters out and tap them. They maybe BA on second thoughts. Thx a lot

I think they're 3/16 UNF. That's what I re-tap'd (tapped??) mine with anyway.

Cheers.
