I recently purchased a series 2 1970 roadster. Doing a complete nut & bolt rebuild im struggling on the right colour. It waas orginally british racing green but i like the look of opalescent gunmetal grey with red leather. What are the true colours for this model / yr

I;ve looked at http://www.xkedata.com/catalog/colors/ but nothing jumps out

Gunmetal does indeed look gorgeous but owners report it being invisible to other drivers as it melts into the road surface. I believe your list of colors in small print contains a typo; it lists "Opalescent Gunmetal Series 1 1972-1974," which appears to be incorrect.

According to the book "Factory-Original Jaguar E-Type" by Anders Clausager (formerly the chief archivist for Jaguar Heritage), Opalescent Gunmetal was used only for the Series 1 3.8 from March 1961 to August 1964.

According to Clausager, the correct colors for the Series 2 4.2 are: Ascot Fawn, Black, British Racing Green, Cream, Daimler Silver Grey, Dark Blue, Light Blue, Pale Primrose Yellow, Regency Red, Sable, Signal Red, Silver, Silver Grey, Warwick Grey, Willow Green.
- Clausager also lists "special colors" Beige, Black, Cinnamon, and Suede Green.

I'd recommend against using Opalescent Gunmetal. Otherwise, you may have a difficult time selling it when that day comes.

That list is from Clausager's book page 167, and Sternkamps 'Complete Jaguar' so it must come from a common Factory document, typo or not. At the end of the day Jaguar would paint your car any colour you wanted.

Gunmetal is always popular, and the standard colours for the S2 were, frankly, awful apart from Signal Red and the blues . I cannot think that you would have the slightest difficulty in selling it at any stage, but do heed David's warning about visibility which came about as a result of experiences I had with a friend's car where people just did not see us

Yes, my reference books show OGM as a standard factory offering for the years 61-64 only.
