Green stuff pads

Hi peeps on with the brakes, bought green stuff pads but notice they don't have the same back plate as std pads eg it's just a slot so doesn't actually attach to the piston as the originals do. Is this a problem?

Not sure about the shape/clip issues without a picture, but have to say I very quickly threw these Green ones away after using them on the Mini - they lost any pretence at braking as soon as they got really hot. I replaced them with Mintex M1144 which are a million times better, even on a road car - and they work from cold for me, contrary to what I had expected. Don't know if they exist for the Jag, but there are abundant alternatives - I don't even know what sort came with my Coopercrafts initially.

I am sure others will chime in with their experiences, but since both the std E and the 8.4" Mini are arguably under-braked, I M H O there might be some validity in extrapolating from one to the other.

F W I I W, I was told by the family that are at the front of most things Mini nowadays that they "wouldn't fit them to their lawnmower".

We've taken numerous green stuff pads off and replaced them with standards.

The pads will work fine without being "held" onto the pistons by the little tab. I've had green stuff rear pads for a while and no issues on that point. I'm not commenting on the quality of the braking, however - I shall be trying standard pads next time.

I have used Greenstuff pads for ages and they have served me well no matter how steep the descent. Angus was telling me he has had glazing problems were owners only use their car for 'normal' driving and are very light on the brakes, so he fits Mintex. The Greenstuff do need to be used fairly aggressively which is why they are good on mountain roads. Poodling to the Pub, not so much.

Been to check, and the 10 year-old pads in the Coopercarfts ARE Greenstuff, as are the rears, and like some of you I've always been very happy with them.

Maybe this confirms what I heard on the (albeit unreliable, smoke and mirrors) Mini Forum, that they weren't what they used to be ; certainly the 8.4" Mini ones I bought 2/3 years ago just gave up when racing Fiestas down from Font Romeu - firm pedal, but not much happening.

I will shove them in and see how we go on , it was my dads car and he always said the brakes were crap hence the green stuff pads. Cheers for you input.

I go with Rory on the 1144's they are great pads but give off a lot of brake dust when driving hard. Questmead in the UK supplied mine
