Ive tried searching the forum but without much luck so could i ask the following question:

Is there a simple way of replacing both rear light clusters on a Series 1 4.2
e type (1966) ?

Any help would be appreciated

Hi. Pretty straightforward. I replaced the clusters on my 3.8 fhc. Disconnect the wires from the back of the cluster. Red is the rear marker light. Green/purple is the brake. Green/white is right rear indicator and green/red is rear left indicator. There may also be a black ground lead although this was missing from my car. Worth adding if it is. You should really isolate the negative lead to the battery too. Remove the coloured lens. You will see three (I seem to recall) screws that hold the light cluster to the body. Removing these will allow the light cluster to be lifted from the body. Access behind the offside cluster is easy. The near side is not as the petrol tank gets in the way but it should not be necessary to remove the tank. You may need to replace the rubber seal that sits between the cluster and the body. I would dab some waxoyl about between the cluster and the rubber seal and the seal and the body. Apply some copper grease to the screw threads before screwing them up. Fit the bulbs and lens. Reconnect the wires and battery. Test all the lights and make sure you have not inadvertently transposed the brake and marker lights. The brake should be much brighter! Job done. Most important to note that the clusters for FHC and OTS are different to match the different wing profiles so make sure you have the correct clusters!!!! A good winter job. Good luck

Tank can stay put. However it is not that bad to remove. I have done it as mine sprang a leakk! All things can be done given patience and the right tools and parts. J

Thanks for the information but just trying to avoid disturbing the fuel tank so hopefully with a few scuffed fingers access to the rear of the light cluster can be gained. :D
