forgot to tighten up one of the cam feed banjos hence the smoke from the exhaust but all the rest good. Ahhhh there is nothing quite like a new build start followed by a much deserved glass of cool beer.

Nice one. Set the timing, put some oil in the dashpots and .....well

forgot to tighten up one of the cam feed banjos hence the smoke from the exhaust but all the rest good. Ahhhh there is nothing quite like a new build start followed by a much deserved glass of cool beer.

Thanks chaps. Yes it was all good. I didnt tighten the bottom feed pipe, not the banjo actually, and this poured onto the exhaust so hence the smoke which the missus was not expecting. Other than that all good Am getting the ammeter moving to C when switched ignition on and at start to Discharge . Presume I have the ammeter wires the wrong way around! Cannot recall seeing any ID marks on the Ammeter terminals. Anyway, engine showing great oil pressure and sounds lovely, so very happy.

Well done, Andrew. I just looks like you forgot to properly torque one of the fittings on the lucas smoke distribution system.

A great moment Andrew
Congrats, well deserved
I also had forgotten to tighten the cam oil feed banjo, but I had cranked few times before connecting fuel and ignition just to get the oil circulating and some oil pressure. Got a nice poodle of oil on the garage floor.

thanks Ralph. I had done exactly the same as you before going for the start. The smoke was the oil on the exhaust that I had not wiped off from the cranking tests. I had tightened the lower banjo prior to start up. I had checked the oil pressure before going for the start for obvious reasons. I am very pleased though, lots still to do , but it has a beating heart now.

If your ammeter is showing backwards, but otherwise correct, values, then you've most probably got the wires reversed at the ammeter. This is one of the things that you need to change if you convert from + to - earth (although you don't _need_ to change it, it has no bearing on the function of anything).andrewh wrote:Am getting the ammeter moving to C when switched ignition on and at start to Discharge . yes I guess they are the wrong way around, although cannot recall seeing any markings on the back of the ammeter. Will take a look and see what what , thanks
