Season's Greetings

The total restoration of this 65 FHC continues. Is it possible to source the original sound deadening material for the boot floor? It seems to have a hexagonal pattern and made from a tar like material. I note it is used elsewhere in the car including the drive shaft tunnel.. I know there are modern versions of this but I was playing around with the idea of using the original stuff if available.

Many thanks,
Wicker Francis

Yes it is available and I have used it. It is bitumen based but I painted over it no problem as shown below.

It was also used on the floors of S3's and I used it for that as well. Its good stuff and very easy to use, quite soft and cut with scissors.

I got mine from Woolies Trimming in the UK. Its self adhesive backed and you need to get it warm before moulding it around any shapes. See their website,
www.woolies-trim.co.uk they will ship it anywhere, its cheap too. The other place to use it is inside the door skins as sound deadening, also as original.
