I have new door lock mechanism from SNG. But I have problems making them hold. They lock OK but do not stand force, then they slip. Anyone experienced similar? I actually have a few of them and they're all the same. I have not oiled them yet, but I assume that will just make them slip more?

Do you mean the catch plate? If so I believe Richard Smith can supply a 'grip' plate...

No I mean the door locking mechanism. It is not able to hold the door locked when you put a certain force on them. Tried to adjust in all direction and the door looks well and sit tight, but when putting some force on it the mechanism releases and the door opens.
Doesn't it make any sense?

Depends what you mean by 'force'. The door locks were not burst-proof until the 2+2 I think, and federalized cars?

Thank you for responding. It is not a lot force I put on it so it certainly is not good. I contacted SNG and got the following reply:

If the plunger adjuster gap is incorrectly set, the door lock mechanism can be held slightly under load this will lead to hit and miss door locking and will quite quickly wear the locking finger in the mechanism. Once this is worn the doors will bounce open if pushed hard enough.

This makes sense. I believe I have tried all ways to adjust it already but will try more when I am getting the car back again. This time (hopefully) with engine and gearbox. From your responses it doesn't seem to be a common problem so it is likely to be something I have done wrong somewhere.

Do let us know please as I am about to buy some of these . Not sure what adjustment there is on the plunger from memory though. Perhaps some photos would help?

I have had similar problems as you and it took about 4 visits to the restorer to get them to shut to, shall we say, acceptable standard.
The reproduction locks are of a poor standard and still now they do not shut at all well.
In the end I gave up and have accepted that the doors will never shut correctly.

Have you looked at the exploded diagram and adjustment details in the Jag service manual, also in the knowledge base section...may help you set up your locks

the first set of lock and handles I had off SNG have been perfect. They were fit and forget for me, hence I am unsure what you MAY have to do to set them up.

Try an automotive locksmith he will adjust all locks correctly.
