...I started dismantling my car in January 2009, and changed the tub about 2 years later.
Today, after putting the remaining front suspension back together, I put her on wheels back again- now I can roll and steer it.
If someone would push me, I could "drive" on the yard - despite no filled brakes, no bonnet, no rad....
It feels like a small milestone. The next weeks and months, I will fit the steering ball joints, radiator, and have a go - through the electrics.
Finally, still waiting for shims and a head bolt set from SNG, after it's arrival its time to put the head back on- and buy a set of water hoses. The set I have is factory original, "harmonium style", and complete. Just 50 years old makes me think to better go for a new set...but I saved and plated all the Cheneys...
After that, I also did the front brakes on my Merc. What an easy game, one hour for both sides, discs and pads, and including cleaning the lot and ramping the car up edge by edge.
Tomorrow, maybe more working on the E and/ or doing the Merc's rear brake. A combination of drums and discs !

If by 'harmonium-style' you mean corrugated hoses the kit is not original. No 4.2 had corrugated hoses.
Well done on achieving 'rolling' status.

Hi Pete,
I'll send you a pic. The hoses look like this
/\/\/\
\/\/\/
when cut longitudinally.
I believe this to be original, all the Cheneys are there, it just felt that way.
But you never know of course. Maybe PO had a blow and decided to replace them all so they're a nice touch from 1966 or later USA...

On the contrary, one can easily know by checking the parts book and photos of original E-types. You must feel whatever you like Carsten, but again the 4.2 never had such hoses. I would not use them, as even if they work they scream 'one-size-fits-all' bodge. Even the 3.8 only had one with a short corrugated section (in the top hose),Durango2k wrote:I believe this to be original, all the Cheneys are there, it just felt that way.

The convoluted top hose was fitted on the early 3.8's until they changed the pressure of the cooling system from 4psi to 9psi by recalibrating the filler cap. You MUST NOT use the convoluted hose with a 9psi cooling system.

The 3.8 hoses, convoluted or straight, are not suitable for the 4.2 in any case!
