Hi all,
Restoring a Series 1.5 bonnet, and need to order new headlamp buckets and associated parts for same (all original bits are missing....).....am getting some conflicting advice from the usual major supplier, as to whether to order "flat-back" type part no SBS5000, or full-dome type JS384. Was advised that it depends on whether open or closed type headlights, but I thought (perhaps mistakenly......) that all Series 1.5 cars had open lights....? Do not have old ones, so nothing to go by there....Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated. Have been thro all available catalogues, came out of that more confused than when I started...... :? :?
Best regards,
Norman.

This document may answer your questions and beg some others like "was there really a S1.25" JCNA S1.5 Judge's Guide: http://www.jcna.com/library/concours/2006/e-type1.5.pdf

I think you need the flat back bowls, the round ones were used when the headlights were moved even further forwards on the S2 cars. Hopefully someone else can confirm.

Headlamp bowels [Closed vs Open] depends on what kind of diaphragms you have ?

Series 1 [closed] SBS5000 headlamp bowel goes with Diaphragm:
BD16423 LH
BD16422 RH

Series 1.5 [Open} JS384 headlamp bowel goes with Diaphragm:
BD28461 LH
BD36577 RH

Thanks all,
The reference to diaphragms solves the problem exactly, and I can proceed appropriately.....Thanks Robsan.......and
Best regards,
Norman.

Hi Steve,
Don't have those, but actually don't need as I am converting the bonnet to closed headlamps, with a Wahlsinn conversion kit.........
Best regards,
Norman.

Hi Norman,

I'd be interested to see the results of your conversion. I've gone for the Monocoqure metalworks s1.5 to s1 bonnet conversion kit and have just bought a TIG welder to install it - terrified !

Cheers,

Hi Neil,
Will send some pics when complete, you are welcome. If you want a preliminary view, have a look at the Stefan Wahl (Wahlsinn) website which is e-type-only.com. I had a look at the Monocoque Metalwork product too, but at the end of the day I went for the Wahlsinn product on account of the slimmer surround, which I prefer to the original Series 1 type....(I'm not too committed to originality, each to his own.....
BTW, don't worry about the TIG-welding, just practice on a few bits of sheet scrap, prior to attacking the real thing.....with the Wahlsinn kit, there is no welding......best of luck.....
Best regards,
Norman.

Interesting thread.

My S1 is one of the last export cars, triple SU's, toggle switches and open head lights. Are these head lights the same as the S1.5 or different again?

Thanks Arron

Arron, the open headlight late series one bonnet, and headlight arrangement, and all associated parts, are the same as the series 1 1/2 1968 bonnets. No differences.

Hi Fixed Head

Thank you for the reply, I have now down loaded and read the Judges Guide...very informative and that has cleared up a number of points regarding the car.

As ever, a very valuable community on here.

Thanks again.
