Crossmember trim
#1 Crossmember trim
Hi,
I am in the middle of trimming the interior of my 62 fhc. I have been using a kit supllied by BAS and have so far been very impressed with the fit and quality of parts.
I am about to trim the crossmember that runs under both seats and through the transmission tunnel. BAS have supplied carpet material for this - I thought that the crossmember was trimmed in vinyl. I have had a look at the 3.8 factory thread and this confirms my thoughts.
Was this crossmember ever trimmed in carpet on later models??
Cheers.

Mine ( very early 4.2 ) certainly was , and indeed I cannot recall seeing one which did not have carpet. That does not mean , of course, that there weren't any but Jaguar generally always used carpet where it could be seen

Carpet looks much nicer and is certainly much more durable

My very early 4.2, #1E30036, had vinyl over the cross member, as did my later car, #1E32208. Both had unmolested interiors when I acquired them. I'd go with vinyl simply because it'll go around the corners better.

Both my mid 62 cars are vinyl and were totally original . Carpet it incorrect for a 3.8 certainly of that age

And if that photo made you feel as ill I did, this is what she ended up looking like

Thanks for everyone's replies. If it was down to a vote, looks like vinyl would win!
Andrew, with a finish like that, it is a shame to cover it with anything
Cheers.
