Bonnet safety catch and bracket
#1 Bonnet safety catch and bracket
In my pursuit of the slight and occasional creaking noise when I drive over slightly underrating ground, I have alighted upon my non original replacement safety catch and bracket. It would appear that the two come into contact with each other when the bonnet is in the lock down position. Any slight movement of the bonnet would cause a squeaking of metal to metal. Has anyone else found this with new replacement parts here? I previously had to bend down the catch bracket to get it to line up but it then broke in half. Only slightly bent it honest! I am at a loss here without an original of either that has not been mauled to compare to. I reckon that the effect of the touching is also slightly holding up the centre of my bonnet from seating perfectly along the top as well. I guess I was wondering whether anyone makes these correctly to original design and measurements?

Hi Andrew, I bought one from him in stainless and it's very good quality so recommended. When I bought mine he only did the catch for some reason and not the bulkhead part.

thanks Simon. Good to know. I need to do some measuring work to see why are fouling each other. One or both of the replacement parts will be the culprit no doubt.

thank you Keith was this the centre catch rubbing on the retaining bracket behind the cam covers? They should not be in contact i would have thought in any case. As a trial I have put some insulation tape on it to see whether that is the squeak. Have not been out in it yet to try but seems likely it is the culprit.
