Dear E Type Enthusiasts,
I am new to this forum and want to briefly introduce myself: besides some other classic cars I own an E series 1 2+2 since 13 years and restored it to concourse conditions over several years. Now my son and I want to start a new project: we want to build a Low Drag Coupe for road use.
Thus, I would appreciate if you could share any experience with the different suppliers of the Low Drag body and bonnet etc. and also insights in building one of those fantastic Low Drag Coupes.
Best regards
Markus

Hi Markus and welcolm to the forum....what are your thoughts on registering a new build for road use or are you looking to use a doner vehicle and its paperwork

RS Panels would be the place to start...
http://www.rspanels.co.uk/index.php
They can provide a fully built body...
http://www.rspanels.co.uk/part.php?part=87
However, I suspect that if it's to be a road going car then you would need a base car as a starting point. I believe an OTS is eaiser to convert but they can convert FHC's too (costs more as roof requires removal).

If you look at the 6 new lightweights that Jaguar have recently built
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -each.html my understanding is that becaus they are new builds they cannot be used on the road becaus they do not meet modern standards...... there is also some debate that they also could not be used for racing becaus they have no herirage........

Neil, all,
So far, I found the following suppliers of alloy panels, entire body shells incl. monocoque or entire cars:
- RS Panels
- Classic Jaguar Racing
- CMC (body seems to be manufactured by RS Panels)
- Vicarage
- Coventry Classics NZ
- Concours Sportscar Restoration
The last two companies are based in New Zealand or Australia, which is too far away … from my perspective, but I happy to be convinced if anyone has made a positive experience.
I also agree, that a donor car is required to get a road registration.
I would appreciate if anyone can complement the list of potential suppliers and also share any experience with those companies.
Many thanks in advance
Best regards
Markus

I guess this is what you are trying to achieve:

You need a donor car with a genuine VIN.

Hi Markus,
there are few suppliers of body panels around. The first question is what do you want to build ? CUT7, Lindner Nocker or 49 FXN ?
The second, are they ready to sell you panels ? I think they only sell complete bodies.
RS Panels are in the best in my opinion. To date, they have built the Eagles E-Type bodies, few CUT7 bodies, the CMC Lindner Nocker and one or two 49FXN replica.

There is also Simon Dunford who is an ex Lynx employee. He only builds Lindner Nocker version.

Concours Sports Car restoration in Australia recently acquired the rights of the Dunford's wooden master. Both cars are visually identical. The first car was completed in may 2016.

In the past, Lynx built 5 Lindner Nocker and Brian Wingfied 3 strange examples.
A one-off, superbly crafted is currenlty for sale via CKL. It was built by a swedish enthusiast and it's nearly perfect.

I don't think RS panels had anything to do with the Lindner-Nocker car, which was exclusively hand rebuilt by CMC itself using in almost all cases the original panels beaten and wheeled to shape

CMC rebuilt the original monocoque with one man in house. RS Panels provide assistance. Here is the album of the panel beater in the CMC workshop ->

The second, 77RW, was entirely built by RS Panels near perfection.
Next to 4868WK, the original one.

4868WK is the original one . It was rebuilt by CMC in their works over about a 3 year period using in almost all cases the original panels. I saw it there as it progressed , and indeed I was present when it was " launched " by Peter Neumark . RS panels played no part in that as far as I know. 77WK may have been built by RS panels but is merely a copy

Dear all,
Many thanks for all the details and feedback
I also saw several low-drag E types at the recent Oldtimer Grandprix at the Nuerburgring – they participated in the Gentlemen Driver Challenge and Jaguar Classic Challenge. Please see enclosed pictures. It also shows the crashed bonnet of 5303VB.
Best regards

Dear Wilde,
impressive - many thanks for the info!
how can you identify the difference between the Dunford and RS Panels versions?
best regards
Markus

Relatively easy. Lynx produced only 5 examples and RS Panels one, 77WK. Dunford have strange wheels arches and a more bulbous roof.
To answer Quattrofrank, I don't think it's Opalescent Dark Blue.
