860403 starts and seemingly runs well but after recently experiencing a freshly restored car from CMC (truly amazing), particularly noticeable was how smooth and continuously the power was delivered throughout the rev range. Or should I say that in comparison 403 power starts to flatten to some degree from around 3k rpm.

The engine in my car is now 7,000 miles since being overhauled, (although that was in 1984) and have recently carefully shimmed the valve clearances and adjusted the timing chain tension. The carbs have been stripped, cleaned and rebuilt with a Burlen repair kit and new floats. The fuel filters are all clean, HT leads, plug caps, coil, points all new, and a full tank of shell 97 with octane booster, the exhaust system is all new mild steel with no leaks - the final part of this exercise is the distributor before I place it in the hands of some one who knows how best to tune the engine.

So I feel I should have this overhauled and the question is where might be the place to go? I don't want to go away from the original set up (i.e. electronic) for if the original design is working within its scope it is much easier to work to a known specification.
