I bought this for my 2+2 to realise the 2+2 is totally different doh.

I want to resell it but something is telling me its not from a 4.2 but from a 3.8. The apperture for the gear lever looks like the larger one used on the 3.8. It also looks shallow height wise compared to the 4.2. I have looked at loads of pics online and I cant be sure. I don't want to sell someone the wrong thing.

The seller tells me the car was a 4.2 all synchro but I am still not fully convinced. He sold a bonnet with a B plate so this could be the transition year for the 3.8 to 4.2.

Can anyone tell me for sure.

Vinyl covered console top and gear shift gauntlet makes it a post 1963 console. I don't know for certain, but the shift gauntlet looks a lot like my 1963 version in metal. It could be a 4.1 series 1 console.

Hi,
For me it's a latter 3.8L. The gearshift box is not flat on the top.
It's leather and not vinyl.

I am grateful for your responses and yes you are concurring with what I can see online.

This would have the chrome strip around the outside of the gear lever selector housing and its shallow at the rear end of the surround like the 3.8 models. All the 4.2 consoles seem to have a much taller suround with a different Gator construct.

I think I will advertise it as 4.1 onwards and let people use their initiative. Seems a lot of swaps were made during the early production.

Thanks
