#1 Reversing light

Post by Sarthe72 » Thu Nov 17, 2016 3:00 pm

Sadly, I was rear-ended last week on my way back from a funeral. Damage is quite severe, and I really need information on the original 1961 reversing lamp, that which is no more as far as my car is concerned. It isn't something you really think about too much but for some reason I was thinking that the glass was different from the "bullseye" ones. Luckily I have found some Butler chromes, but don't ask the price (wince) although it is not me that is paying of course. Anyway, hope someone will help out with the reversing light.

The reverse light part no is C18724. Repro copies of the original Lucas part are available from the usual suppliers. The chrome plinth on which it mounts is part BD20754 again available as a repro part. Other option is to watch eBay as originals do appear from time to time.

I hope you get your car repaired and back to perfect as soon as possible. I dread a rear end shunt

The consequences of a rear ended was one of the reasons I bought and fitted MX5 seats. I hope the damage can be repaired quickly and without loss of use of the car for too long.

Thanks people, but the question remains. I have it in my head that the early cars had different pattern glass, not the concentric circles. If so -and of course I no longer have proof - I need to look further than a standard replacement.

If you find an unobtanium original, doubtless Marek could reproduce it in plastic?

From memory i think it is Lucas L595 , using that for a search may help hunt one down .
