#1 Reverse light wiring

Hi fellow e type owners. This might be a daft question but here goes....
When i purchased my car four years back the reverse light did not work. Turned out that it had no wiring. At the time I ran a wire from the fuse box to the gear box switch and one from the switch back down the drivers side following the off side loom and along to the light. Problem solved.
It has puzzled me that it was not connected. I have peered at both the off side and near side looms to the back but I cannot see a spare wire in either..
So the question. Should the off side or near side loom have a wire for the reverse light? if so which? Neither loom run is in the best of health so I am minded to order repacements for both providing one or other does have the missing wire.
If anyone has rewired their S1 of late and knows the answer it would be much appreciated?
Julian
