#1 Wiper parking frustration

Post by Wicker Francis » Fri Dec 02, 2016 1:08 pm

Greetings all

Although I note the wiper parking subject has been addressed many times, I find nothing that specially relates to my situation. I'm in the final throws of a complete rebuild of a 1965 FHC and while checking the various electric systems, learn that the wipers work but when the switch is flipped off they stop instead of continuing to park. This car did not have the park switch setup on the rack. Although the new wire harness has a green/red wire in that vicinity which I left unattached. The wiper motor/gearbox shows it to be a 75404E "dl3". There are 6 wires from the bottom of the motor all connected

Questions:
1. Would this motor/gearbox be correct for this year 1965?
2. Should there be a rack switch on this car?
3. The gearbox has a aluminum cover plate with no wires to it nor is there an plastic connector to the outside of the gearbox as I have seen in some photos. Is this correct?
4. Is this the type motor/gearbox that the plastic gear gets removed and oriented for proper parking?

Thanks ahead for any comments on this.

You should have a wiper rack parking switch otherwise it wll not work with the Lucas DL3. A Lucas DL3A was fitted to LHD S1.5 cars (it has a wire going to the centre of the gearbox) and that does not require a wiper mounted switch. Getting hold of a DL3A would be your easiest option. Thank you, David

I will consider sourcing the DL3A. From what I have read on previous posts, do I understand correctly that if that green/red wire in the vicinity of the middle wiper were grounded, the wiper motor would stop?
