Faulty windscreen wipers

Sorry if this post has been discussed before but I've done several searches and not found what I'm looking for.
For the last few weeks my wipers have been working intermittently but every time I try to find the fault the wipers work perfectly. I didn't think I'd say this but luckily they have stopped working all together so I stand a chance of finding the fault.
I have got the basic drawing for the car but has anybody got an internal drawing of the switch so I can continuity test the switch the basic drawing ok for telling me which wire goes were but doesn't tell me how the wiper motor works.
The car is a early series 1.5 with the series 1 toggle switches.

Had this symptom.
Had it for years.
Fortunately the wipers worked long enough for the MOT, but not for anything other than a very short rain shower. Then they stopped working at all.
The motor was on its way out, eventually giving up completely.

As I recall it was a pig of a job to replace. Lots of fiddling with rods and levers and clips and making sure the arm was in the right position. Skinned knuckles broken finger nails and chipped paint, all part of the fun.
I've still got the old motor, which one day I might get round to restoring.

I'll try to surf the net tonight to find a drawing of the internals of the switch and the motor so I can fully test it electrically before I remove it. I'm probably going to end up with hands like yours as my hands are large, you never know I might be able to get my wife to do the awkward bits but I doubt it.

Scrowl till " the miscellaneous" and find " wiper motor operation"

I've found all the info and more that I need to fault find. Being new to the forum and this being my first real fault on the car I hadn't seen this section before its looks like all the info I'll ever need is there.
Once again thanks for taking time to post the replys its been a great help. I'm going to have a look at the weekend and I'll post the fault that I find

Hi sorry about the delay posting the outcome of the fault finding. The fault turned out to be poorly bedded brushes probably due to lack of use. I've cleaned everything up and now the wipers are working fine I'll just have to try and use them more often. Thanks for the pointer to the knowledge section without the wiring diagram I would still have found the fault but it would probably have taken a lot longer.
