Well, someone has to resurrect a 4 year old thread, it might as well be me!
I was almost giving up looking for the vin until I read this thread.
I found it on the upper bell housing attachment flange on the left side (exhaust side)on top / rear of the engine in the dipstick area.
This '70 2+2 is new to me and I'm glad the PO wasn't bs-ing that the engine is original.
It matches the data plate and the Heritage Certificate.
A pic if it helps anyone ...
