#1 Thermostat Housing Bleed System

Post by RogerM » Thu Aug 22, 2024 5:11 pm

My car is an American converted and has a Series 1 thermostat housing, so there is no bleed to the radiator where the connection is blanked off.
Looking on the web I can buy all the series 2 bits needed except the bleed valve in the thermostat housing.
What does the bleed system do, is it necessary, and where can I get a bleed valve. To convert from what I have got to what I should have will cost nearly £350 !!

Have owned the car for 13 years and done loads of miles without any problems, but I decided to change all the water hoses and the thermostat to radiator hose is too short as I don't have the extended thermostat housing of the Series 2.

Any thoughts would be welcome

Hi Roger, on Thursday I am visiting the home of a guy who is reportedly selling up his stock of E type parts from several cars that he has broken for spares over the last 10 years. I will see what thermostat housings, if any that he has to sell. I will ask for any other parts that you may need if you let me know, cheers John.

Hi John
Thanks for your interest. I am only in need of a Series 2 thermostat housing with bleed valve.

There is no bleed valve per se on the Series 2 thermostat housing, just a length of small diameter hose that parallels the main top hose to the radiator to serve the bleed function.

Etypeparts.com currently have two secondhand Series 2 thermostat housings on their website in their "Half-price sale" at £122.50 and what look like NOS C28223 water outlet pipes for £28.75.

I think that's the part. It has part number C28442.
