I noticed this thread whilst looking for something else....
My wife, after extensive research utilising removed human body parts, at the end of her PhD, set the W.H.O.levels for cadmium exposure in the working environment and also in the atmosphere surrounding such plants.
She agrees with the general comments, but adds the caveat, that with proper management and operating conditions plating is possible safely, however the expense necessary to achieve these conditions is prohibitive for most normal factories.
The levels of Cadmium in bones and kidneys can vary a lot apparently from subjects within the same environment.
