Having recently had my leaking radiator repaired and re-cored, I now wish to replace the thermostat. However, it appears that the later 82 degrees thermostat (Waxstat C280671W) is no longer available, but the 74 degrees C28067 is.
I presume that the 74 unit is physically the same, just with a lower opening temperature.
Is there any reason why I should not fit the 74 unit?
Coolcat's website seems to suggest that both the Quinton Hazel QH104 and the Gates 33188S (if available) would be suitable replacements for the 82 unit.
I would be grateful for any advice or recomendations.

Use EBC3576, readily available from many places including SNB for around £10, at 82 degrees.
The style of thermostat used in later 4.2 engines was very common across hundreds of engines in the '70s, '80s and '90s so no chance of going obsolete or out of stock.
Do not fit a 74 degree thermostat, stick with Jagaur's recommendation of 82 degrees for regular climates. If you use a 74 degree thermostat the engine will not get hot enough for best MPG and get the oil warm enough to evaporate condensation out of it.
