#1 British Racing Green

Post by SteveG. » Sat Aug 16, 2014 8:19 pm

My 1970 2+2 is currently being resprayed, it was painted in BRG originally, but has had a respray at some point and it is a metalic finish.
Was a metalic BRG an original option, or was it only available in a non-metalic?

The link is opening the Series 2 page David, what should it refer to?

Sorry should be this one: http://etypeuk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=951
which lists all the paints and codes by year.

The closest I can think of for your current colour is Opalescent Dark Green which was an early S1 colour but Jaguar would paint the car pretty much any colour you wanted so, arguably ODG is OK on your car.

Thanks David, I hadn't thought of that, I'll do a bit more research before committing to the final colour. I do really like it in the metallic, it's only the fact they didn't remove the glass last time it was painted that made me decide on a full respray.

At launch, the Series 2 was only available in non metallic standard colours.
(I guess as before you could order your e type in any colour)

The BRG is very dark and paint code HDJ/254 works at my local paint supplier.

These are the colours available from Aug 68. Series 2 build started in early Aug.

I'll wait for the heritage certificate, but my gut feeling is to go non-metallic BRG.
Thanks for your input.

Heritage certificate turned up today, British Racing Green it is then.
Also turns out the car was manufactured on the 18th December 1969, so it's from a better decade :D
