#1 Repair to wiper rack on a series 2

Post by james-t » Mon Mar 16, 2015 11:57 pm

This week i took the cover off the car only to find the drivers wiper arm resting on the bulk head. On examination i found that the drive spindle had dropped down into the interior of the bulkhead leaving the splined section inside the wiper arm. My question is can anyone suggest a suitable repair to prevent the spindle from falling out. Thanks in anticipation, James

From memory the spline is a die cast part which is held on by peening the end of the shaft a couple of times with a punch. You could probably glue it back on with epoxy.

2+2 or SWB? May not be mechanically relevant depending on issue but twin and triple wiper systems have different accessibility.

#4 Wiper Rack Repair

Post by james-t » Tue Mar 17, 2015 10:20 pm

Thank you gentlemen for your comments. The car is a 2 +2 ,hence two blades. If I can support the spindle from inside the bulk head and as suggested peen the spindle with a punch then it may work. Thanks again, James.
