Hi,
had real problems with cam cover gaskets slipping out when tighening the nuts. Anyone used or have a recommendation for/against just using instant gasket and doing away with the paper ones on the cam covers ?
Also I just acquired some really nice new cam covers - seems I have a later head on mine (but have full history and thats not recorded !). Anyway, my old cam covers dont have a semi-circuluar cut out on them at the bulkhead end (on the head there is a rubber grommet alreasy in place) am I right to assume it'd be the same grommet for the top half if you dont have a rev-counter take off
Looking in the parts catalogue it looks like C19043/C26773 - except RHS(drivers) does seem to have two screw holes but LHS doesnt. advice welcome

To add more - the LHS is 3cm diameter whereas the RHS on the Cam cover is 4cm - so it looks like C39195 would be OK for the left but not the right. Any ideas on an equivalent. Obviously the blanking plate wont work as head is 3cm and cover is 4cm !

Just an update here !
Welcome to the world of slight modifications per model !
So the cam covers I had are probably due to a new head from a XJ6. The original E-type ones are the same fit - but have a semi-circular cut out for the rev counter take-off I believe. There are two plates you can get - but only if you have the fixing holes in the head - which I did on one side ! The rubber bungs fit one-side but not the other !
So the solution I have some up with is to use part of my wifes plastic chopping board ! Easy to cut to shape and get a good fit - and very tightly glued into place. It is exactly the right thickness and painted black you cannot tell it is a bodge ! With new chrome nuts it all looks pretty good.
Now I just need to explain why the chopping board has two hole cut in it.
Anyway - if anyone ever has a similar challenge feel free to reach out.
