Heater Flapper Stay and Air Intake Bonnet

I am working on restoring my heater box and have 2 questions:
1. On the bar that holds the flapper, opposite of the cable side, I have a fitting that looks like it has a set screw inside. I have seen pictures with a bolt in there. My question is, did Jaguar use a set screw that went into the fitting? (See attached picture.)

2. For a Series II, was an air intake for the heater box used? Mine seems to be missing.

Welcome along to the forum from another S2 OTS in Regency Red.

Yes is the answer to both your questions. Jaguar did use a setscrew and from the picture in your welcome post, unless it is just out of camera shot, the air intake for the heater is missing on the bonnet.

The duct is #10, with the opening on panel #19.

On the opening goes the duct to the heater box, #45


Interestingly it also looks like the alternator is in the position when aircon is fitted, but you don't have it fitted in the interior.

Hi Jim, here is a good photo showing the heater duct (SNG #10) mentioned by Mark. Photo is of an early S2 bonnet (1R25275). Not sure whether it was changed for later S2 cars to clear new position of the a/c compressor. Regards, Kris

by the way, the setscrew is a UCS113/3R

Coarse threaded setscrew. Hex head. Thread diameter 1/8" 32 TPI. 3/8" long.

Is this the proper style Heater Air Inlet for a Series 2 built 12/1969? It looks like it has the proper bolt hols for my air intake on the bonnet.

Mark, you are correct, my 1R11203 does not have a/c or power steering but has the alternator facing in that position. I am fairly sure it is all original as it was purchased by my mother-in-law new 12/1970. Although, it has had a few repairs due to accidents.

Yes, that is the correct part for the heater air inlet.
You will need
1x BD.22480 Extension Assembly, in Bonnet, for Heater Air Intake
1x BD.28378 Seal, Rubber, for Air Intake Extension
5x UCS.125/6R Setscrew, securing Extension Assembly
5x UCN.125/L Nut, on Setscrews
3x BD.542/3 Washer, Special (oval), under Setscrews
5x FG.104/X Washer, Spring, under Nuts

You also appear to be missing the short rubber sealing strip underneath it on the mudguard (#49 & #50)

The alternator does seem to be an anomaly. I've seen plenty of late 69 and 70 cars with the alternator fitted by the exhaust manifolds when the aircon was not fitted. But it works and will be on factory parts so no big deal really.
