Who knows? The rot set in with bumper requirements AFAIK. The height was specified and I think they had to be continuous, or Jag thought it made sense in the land of 'touch parking'. From the repositioned bumper issue sprang the numberplate space restriction, requiring a two-row square plate. When I went to single0row I had to get a special one made with slightly closer character spacing to fit the space. The numberplate format is what dictated the splayed pipes so once you go single-row you can revert to Series 1 resonators. I was thinking of using a Series 1 reversing light instead of the twin Lotus ones but the boot floor doesn't have the dent you need to accommodate the S1 light unit.
I am still wondering about fitting one but using it for a 21W fog lamp with a red tinted bulb. I also considered only fitting one Lotus lens with a clear reversing lamp lens and having the other one red as a fog lamp. I like symmetrical cars and bikes though...

You will find it very difficult to source the original Lotus rear light sets. Unlike E-Type's the Lotus Elan is not well served by repro parts suppliers. You could try Paul Matty Sportscars
http://www.paulmattysportscars.co.uk/Parts.aspx or Susan Miller
http://www.mickmillerlotus.com/parts-lighting.html who may be able to help.
Part numbers are MRLA050BR and MRLA050BL and cost about ?150 each. You may be able to buy just the lenses for less.

Invariably when some pillock pulls up right behind you when you are about to reverse into a parking space

Pete posted this picture of his car on Jag-Lovers so I thought I would snag a copy and link it here to complete the thread. The modification looks really good IMHO:
Any more pictures Mr Crespin?

Excuse me? What sort of man do you think I am David? I don't show pictures of my rear end to just anyone....not on a first date anyway :-)
unless you ply me with drink.
Am at Heathrow and won't be back for two weeks so will take some when I get back.
