The IRS will be back together this week with a new 3.07 diff, the various pieces are back from finishing. The seats and console have come back from refinishing.

Since the car is getting restored back to a European spec vs California, I'm looking for a set of European ribbed Valve / Cam covers without the notched step to go with the triple SU's. Can't seem to locate them here. Any ideas?

Hi Dane....why not post in the wanted section.....quite a few members have replaced their ribbed covers for smooth ones....so u might get lucky........i know postage to the Canada will be expensive....is there an option to somehow fill in the cutouts (tig) and have it machined.....just a thought... If you are still thinking about ignition systems I see that Jag Lovers has an advert for an unused EDIS set up made by Ray L.
Widely thought of as being the best system around and no longer in production.

I went with the CSI system. It's interesting that the EDIS for sale over on Jag Lovers is from Saltspring. That's just a stones throw from here. It doesn't surprise me that much, as my Restorer has 3 XKE's undergoing full frame off restorations going on right now. A lot of European car lovers on Vancouver Island, and a lot of Classic Car expertise here. Plus we have a new Race Track nearby in Duncan that is world class, and well used.

For sure. They are very good at what they do, and they do quite a few Jags, but also many other marks. The owner started out as a Master Mechanic for BMW.

Note the Series 1 in the background of this picture with mine. They typically have half a dozen Classics of various flavors in the line at any given time.

Body in White - pre fitting components, lining it all up. Since the Car will be dark blue, a lot of time is spent on perfect finishing. Looks good so far.

The final body pre-fitting including bonnet, doors and chrome is done, painting is underway, bonnet has had the first clear coat sprayed, awaiting wet sanding. Should be done next week, then on to the drivetrain stuff.

In the early part of this thread, I got some input from the members here on the 3.54 Diff as being a bit too short for my liking at highway speeds. I should bring some closure on the final decision on the discussion to make it taller, back to the European 3.07 preference/spec. Here's a couple of pics on how it got there with a DANA gearset with a 43-14 gear and pinion versus the original 46-13 factory, fyi.

Mike Owen, (the lead on the Mechanical side of things) inspires with such detail confidence on the multiple gotchas that can take the job sideways at every turn. I'm amazed at the level of detail and insight he has on British machines from that era. I will mention it to him, pretty sure he will patiently roll his eyes toward the ceiling, and say thanks. He's way past needing to use his ego on anything about "my" jag, because some of the stuff I've hand wringed over early on in this adventure seems somewhat silly now - and he could have easily shot me down, but simply said he'd take it all into consideration.

On the Engine, I'm thinking that I'll get the crank, flywheel and damper dynamically balanced as the ring gear will be new and just to ensure it will be as smooth as it can be in zeroing the engine after weight balancing the new pistons, rings, bearings etc. In previously testing the engine on the stand after removal, there was a mild vibration around 2000 rpm. At the suggestion of someone here, I purchased an modern crankshaft damper to replace the original.

Living on Vancouver Island where there are excellent racing shops close by who do this sort of thing, for the few hundred dollars extra at this point seems to make sense. Make sense?
