hi guys. i am sure this have been discussed many times, but can anyone confirm model ( and hopefully post the picture) of radio which would have been installed from factory on 69 S2?

As far as I know a radio was not on the Factory options list for the S2 cars so I assume they were dealer fit options, usually Radiomobile. However this 1969 Service Bulletin refers to the Philips 22RN/681:

The Philips radio was for US cars (as per the service bulletin heading) as they offered the new-fangled FM option.

The preferred radio in the UK remained the Radiomobile, but as you rightly say if chosen it would have been a dealer fit rather than a factory fit anyway (and presumably you could have declined your dealer's preferred offering and gone for a make of your own choosing).

As above, I'm sure if you'd provided your dealer with one they would have fitted it, but otherwise I can't see a UK Jaguar dealership offering anything other than a Radiomobile.

The fact that Smith's was the parent company explains the connection with Jaguar, and interesting to note that the author once installed an early television set at Sir William Lyons' place in Devon - presumably a holiday retreat (see about a third of the way down the article).

Your car would have had the Philips, either Factory fitted or supplied (in a box for fitting at the US dealership).

Good information - many thanks! I added the photo for you but in future if you want to do it the process is quite simple. Right mouse click on the required photo and then click on 'Copy Image Address'. Go to your Forum post, click on the 'mountain and sun' icon on the top toolbar (ninth from left) and paste the link between the ] [ brackets.This will work for about 90% of photos residing on the web (not on your PC) but if the photo is removed or moved it will no longer display here. Anything on XKEdata.com will be fine though.

I think the clue for me is they have to be already posted on the web, I will create a photobucket account or something similar. I was trying to upload from my PC.

as for the radio, they occasionally pop up on ebay, but be prepared to spend a load of money.
thankfully mine is original to the car, and the comment about the new fangled FM is funny because as it sits thats the only thing my radio now receives, something in the AM circuit has died and I really haven't given it much concern because I don't listen to it, I prefer to listen to the noise the car is generating.

But model in service bulletin is the pic I posted which apparently is not correct ! Hence my question re: model number. Pls be nice to me , I am inexperienced

There are two stickers on my Phillips radio, I dont know if it had a name but the stickers have this:
not sure what else I can tell you, they are rare and when they pop up they are an easy $400-$500 on eBay.

Looks like it was called the 'Tourismo Spezial' whereas the one in your photo is a 'Tourismo TI'. This is the European version:


You need the US version which has M M S FM FM on the buttons rather than M M K U U. Probably best to search eBay USA/Canada if you want to be totally correct. You could also contact Angus Moss to see if he has the correct radio in his "box of plenty".

I have an official UK Jaguar price list from 1970 and it shows "Radio 1080T with pull up aerial for E-Types at £36.00 plus £11.00 purchase tax total £47.00.

My 1970 car has a Motorola push button but not sure of the model which was already installed when I bought the car 40 years ago.

That cheers me up no end as I decided to retrofit an old stereo during my half restoration. I managed to pick up a 1080 off ebay for £16 so looks like I got the right one!

Has anyone had any luck downloading the schematic from the radiomuesum site? (for this phillips radio)
seems like the links take you to a third party download and then it seems fishy to me. The time I tried it I never actually got a schematic. I would even be willing to pay for a decent schematic if I could find it.

right clicking on the little schematic in the top right just give me little portions of the document.
