After a run on a warm day, when the car turns i am getting a noise like the front tires are rubbing on the bonnet.
With the car stopped and bonnet lifted, theres a "chirp" where the column exits the cover at the bulkhead.
Is this anything to worry about?
Can this be lubricated?

Can't help with the chirp. Pretty easy to visually check the wheels are not rubbing....they should not obviously. Does the noise only appear when you turn the wheel or is it there all the time? Could..and I emphasize could be a wheel bearing. Often more obvious when the wheel is turned. Lift each front wheel and grip tightly and twelve and six o'clock position and see if there is play. Repeat at the three and nine o'clock position. If there appears to be play remove the wheel and repeat as best you can on the stub axle...sometimes the play can be spines if the wheel is not tight. If you suspect there is play in the bearing then time to replace before they fail

Do you have power steering? Not just the belt slipping when stationary?

Took car for a drive yesterday, noise not occuring when vehicle is cold.

I had a similar noise when turning, turned out to be a loose spinner, check there all tight.

I had a rack squeak from a brand new steering rack.

It squeaked at low speeds at, light bumps and light steering inputs.

I investigated. I pulled back the outer boots. One side was totally dry. No grease whatsoever!

Greasing fixed it.

One of mine does this too. In my case it's the rubber dust cover where the column exits the firewall.
You could try spraying some silicone spray into it; easier from within the footwell in a RHD car.

Hugo, I would rather not say. It was when I did my LHD/RHD conversion.

I had big issues with steering ball joint rubbers as well.

A brand new set lasted less than 2,000 miles and have now been replaced because they perished.

Well, I don't want to make you the victim of a libel suit, so why don't you tell us who it was NOT? I've been thinking about this topic for a few days now - being a newcomer to Jaguars in general and E Types in particular, I have found it quite challenging to find out, when it comes to suppliers, who are the good guys and who are the bad guys in this business. Now I'm at the stage where I am starting to stick bits back on my car (I've been ripping it apart till now), I'm becoming focussed on the issue of where to buy parts.
There are certain suppliers I keep hearing about whom nobody has a bad word to say about. There's Angus, and Uryk, and there's Marek - but I'm not even sure what he does? And I recently read that Angus has been holding talks with Barrats, so that qualifies them also. Hutsons seem excellent. Then there's a supplier not a million miles from me (i'm in Horsham, ten miles west of Gatwick) about whom I've heard a lot of bad stories. I've done a fair bit of groping around blindly on eBay, and so far I've been lucky. Although I did buy a high-ratio steering rack off eBay - maybe I'd better pull the gaiters off and have a peek inside! And there's Monocoque over in California or wherever they are - they seem to be excellent - and Paul the abrasive gearbox man in Florida seems rock solid also - even if he can't supply any of his excellent gearboxes right now.
