#1 Dipstick bracket

Post by AshM » Tue Jul 04, 2017 5:24 pm

My S2 FHC (1970) does not appear to have any form of bracket for the dipstick.

Having replaced the felt grommet this allows it to sit in the mounting tube quite tightly. Is that it or should there be some other bracket?

The dipstick is not long enough to have the bracket onto the higher exhaust manifold stud that I have seen on others.

Not the biggest query on the forum but value thoughts nevertheless.

Hi Ash.....so you dont have the bracket and even if you did your dipstick is too short to reach it.....options get the proper dipstick....and bracket..or leave as is

Hi Ash...post a photo of the dip stick....Steve
Edit...just to add....there are different sticks...ive seen metal tops, plastic tops, and tops with a round insert(as mine in photo)...dont know which one for which model
From my 69 S2 2+2.....it has an E stamped at the bottom as Malcom mentions below

See if there's an "E" stamped on the bottom of the dipstick. If not, probably not the right dipstick. The Dipstick should be easily long enough to reach the bracket at the exhaust manifold, and stand well clear.

Thanks for replies - helpful as always.

Definitely not high enough to use an exhaust manifold stud for a bracket (not even the lower ones, let alone the upper one).

It has a round top with a red plastic insert. It seems to register accurately against oil levels vs. marks.

Away on business at the moment but will check for the 'E' as you suggest and will post a photograph too when back next week.

thanks
Ash
