series 2 e type screen washer access

Need advice series 2 e type 1970, fitting new windscreen washers but have no idea how to access the internal feeder pipes, cant get in through drop down panel, cant access under bonnet. anyone done this please. Regards Anton

Hi Anton,

Probably not what you want to hear but the only way to access the pipes and nuts that hold the washers in place is through the holes in the bulkhead behind the dash. When rebuilding a painted shell, they are the first things to be fitted to the bulkhead and there is a reason for that.
I think someone posted that they had managed to do it with the dash top in place but you would need very small hands.

The hard part is attaching the plastic tubing to the right hand washer jet (on a left hand drive car) followed by screwing the jet to the wing nut that the tubing runs through. First run the tubing through the wing nut, then attach the tubing to the jet. Then get an 8 and a 10 year old with small hands. The 10 year old uses his/her left hand through the hole in the centre of the dash (between the two vertical columns of fuse boxes), then pushes the wing nut up the tubing until it reaches the jet and makes sure that it doesn't slip back down the tubing. The 8 year old's left hand goes through the hole in the right hand side of the dash and holds the wing nut tight to the jet, which he/she holds with his/her right hand (assuming that the windscreen is removed, otherwise a third person is needed to work the jet). The 8 year old turns the jet until it starts to screw into the wing nut. Then the 8 year old holds a flat screw driver against the right hand side of the wing nut so it can't turn and turns the jet until it is fully screwed into the wing nut.
