I had some replacement straps made years ago to replace the one tatty remaining one on the car. The original strap was a medium grey colour but my replacements are brown (due to material availabilty). I want to colour these but wanted to get a consensus that grey would have been the correct original colour. The strap was on the car when bought in 1977, so I assume it was an original from 1969, but who knows? Can anyone confirm as I note that modern items seem to come in black only.

They were sage green, or at least a light olive green of some sort. No idea why Jaguar chose that colour but all cars were like that regardless of interior colour. My best guess was it made ordering replacements simpler.

Yes, mine are a grey sage green if I take 50 odd years into account. I will try and source some leather dye...

Here is a pic of my 69 original and a replacement I had made at an interior shop.
the green isnt exact, but I replaced both so to me its a perfect match.

I had a play with some leather dye, and got a pretty good match for the remnants of my one original strap...fits nicely with the 'patina' of the original hood.
