Does anyone know if the series 1 and series 2 fuel tanks are interchangeable? My ex US 2+2 has a leaking tank, which I believe, has a slightly larger capacity than the UK version.

Have a look on the SNG website and check out part numbers. This will give you the info

From the info that I have, on the Series 2 there was

C.19801 Petrol Tank Assembly (vented petrol cap)
Fitted up to Chassis Nos.
1R.1067 1R.7992 OTS
1R.20118 1R.25523 FHC
1R.35797 1R.40667 2+2

and (about March 1969) the top part of the Petrol tank was changed.

The "Operating, Maintenence and Service Handbook" E.154/5 p. x gives the tank capacity as 15 imperial gallons or 16 3/4 US gallons or 63.64 litres. This might be the source of the confusion.

Thanks Mark.............most useful. Looks like I need a C.32888 tank (non-vented cap). My car was manufactured on 16 April 1970, chassis no. 43982. Thanks also for clarifying the capacity confusion.

1 gal (imp) = 1.2 gal (US) = 4.55 litre

The C.32888 is quite easy to identify as it has extra pipes on it for the vapour return. Could you add the car to your signature, it will make it easier to identify what is correct for you in future. There were a number of changes for the 1970 cars.
