Hi guys been a while since I have been online due to the car being stored most of last yr :( but now it’s back :) I need to refit a small part of rubber trim that is between the chrome bumpers and the bodywork. What glue would be suitable for this? Also I have a larger piece that needs done in the back bumper but I’ll do that over the winter as the whole back bumper will have to come off to do that. Any advise would be great :)

Superglue - but only between the rubber and the edge of the bumper blade.

I use superglue as well. For bumpers you can glue the rubber on with the bumper off the car and refit it once the glue has gone off.

3M makes a rubber gasket/weatherstrip glue which is kind of like black contact cement.
That’s what I used to get the corners of my rubber gasket to stick to the bumper.

Another vote for superglue - get good quality industrial stuff. It is definitely one of those products that you get what you pay for and, as others have said, just on the very edge of the bumpers.

One other tip that may be useful. When I was refitting the rear bumper unit I was unhappy with the gap between the centre of the bumper and the bodywork. Looking down from above standing centrally at the back of the car the new rubber was touching the bodywork but was virtually flat as the gap underneath the rubber strip was too wide. Did not look good at all.

To close the gap I used a small ratchet strap attached to the IRS then up and over the bumper and into the boot; securing on the inside back panel of the wheel well. Then, with the bumper all fixed in place but loose I gently 'clicked' the strap tight and it brought the bumper in by a few mils and made all of the difference.

Also held it under tension whilst I tightened all of the bolts.

Thanks guys for all the advise. Can you point me in the direction of the good superglue u recommend ie amazon or something? Also the 3m glue also recommended so I can get them ordered before it’s next show on the 5th?

I use this in the workshop and always very pleased with it.

Good quality adhesive and the bottle design makes it easy to apply. It does not clog up either.

It will have been an Amazon or EBay purchase.

Just to close this off I ordered the glue mentioned and it fixed the issue 100%. Thanks for the tip and I will be doing the back trim in the winter :)
